Labeled Love is Danielle Rocco’s debut novel

Labeled Love is Danielle Rocco’s debut novel, but you’d never know it by reading this story. The writing style is fantastic and the words are beautiful. This is one of those books that I devoured and one that kept a permanent smile on my face. It’s one of the sweetest books ever. This couple has so much love and devotion for one another, you will easily fall in love with Jace, Shay and their story. It’s a book that needs to be read!

Jace is a boy who lives on the wrong side of the tracks. He’s being raised by a single mother who could care less about him. Essentially, he’s alone in this world. That is until this thirteen year old boy meets Shay Stark, and his life is forever changed.

Shay Stark is the daughter of a successful music producer in LA. She is a good kid and a bit of a tomboy. Her family has money, but she has wonderful parents who have taught her that it’s not everything. After going to a community center across town with her mom, she decides to join a game of football with the boys. There she sees him. Jace. A boy with dark hair, light eyes and too small clothes. Jace makes her feel something she’s never felt.

Jace and Shay spend the next few years meeting at the community center once a week. They’re best friends and fall into a true, real love along the way. Wednesdays are the best day of the week and the only day Jace really has to look forward to. Shay makes Jace want to be better. He only cares about keeping her happy, about being with her. She is the one true thing in his life. The one real thing. The one good thing. And he will always belong to her.

Shay and Jace’s relationship was the most beautiful thing. They share peanut butter jelly sandwiches, he writes her love letters, she writes him songs, they always have each other no matter what. Falling in love young isn’t always an easy path, especially when it’s real and forever love. This couple doesn’t always have it easy. They have more obstacles than your average couple. But they also have enough love to conquer them all.

I was so impressed with this book. The writing, the characters, the story… just all of it. I can’t think of anything I didn’t love. Shay and Jace were such special characters. I completely adored them. I couldn’t get enough. It was the sweetest story, but as it went on and the couple got older, it did go borderline NA which I liked. Towards the end, there was some angst that has me anxious for the next book. I can’t wait to see where Jace and Shay’s story goes.

Stories about young love make me happy. Shay and Jace’s love isn’t just young puppy love, it’s strong, it has struggles, and it transcends it all. It’s an epic and forever love story about a pretty girl and her boy. Labeled Love really came out of nowhere for me. It was a random book by an author I’d never heard of, but I’m so happy I read it. I will definitely be reading more by this author. Her writing is gorgeous and her story is heartfelt and moving. For anyone who loves YA/young love or is looking for a beautiful love story, I encourage you to pick this one up!

Love transcends everything 4.5 stars

Wow. What a sweet, make your heart feel light kind of love story! But the ending killed me.

Jace is a good kid, but life hasn’t dealt him kindly. From a very young age, he’s had to struggle. Be it food or clothes on his back, Jace didn’t have it easy. But he wasn’t bitter about having less. He still had a beautiful heart. He was still a hero. You’ll know why when you read the first chapter. He was my hero.

Shay was the sweet, sassy, bright as a sunshine kind of girl. She came from a beautiful family, her parents loved each other and never failed to show how much. She loved her siblings and they loved her back. She also was a sassy tomboy.

What happens when a boy who has nothing meets the girl who has everything? A heart lifting love story ensues. I adored the sweetness of their love, I loved how the author made their different background not an issue because so many books do. I loved how the author made the characters central to the story and not their circumstances. They were given the freedom to know each other and let the love they felt blossom into something sweeter. When I say that their backgrounds don’t play into the story I meant that no one made an issue of Jace’s background. But the kid, the boy with a golden heart, was hard on himself. Because of who he was and where he came from, he tried always protect his girl. My heart broke whenever he interacted with him mother, especially when he reminiscences at the beginning of the book. The boy did steal my heart. I was rooting for him to have his HEA.

My respect for Shay’s parents grew as I read along, they loved Jace for the man he was becoming in front of their eyes. They loved watching their daughter blossom and became and even more beautiful person. Shay’s father was a true hero in my book. He told Jace that his background or where he comes from doesn’t matter and time and again he tells his daughter the same thing. But with all things in life, nothing is easy. While Jace and Shay plan their future together, one small act of petty douchbaggery from someone she is close to puts a dark shadow over their life and future.

Will Jace be able to give his pretty girl what she wants most? Or will people who has limited understanding of what it means to really love, put a damper on their love?

This story transcends love in so many ways. The little things they do for each other, the letters, the charms, the music, the lyrics, they have all made a place in my heart.

This book will make you remember your first everything and all of the feelings that go along with it.

Labeled Love is a true YA romance. Experience all of the feels with Jace and Shay from their first meeting. Jace is a swoony boy from the rough side of town, while Shay's wealthy, loving family provide her everything she wants and more. However, love doesn't know addresses. Jace is the protector wanting to keep Shay away from his struggles, but will his secrets keep them from their HEA?

Ottaviani's nonfiction graphic novel about the two most famous "dissident" creators of the atom bomb meets and in sophistication exceeds the standards set by Art Spiegelman's Maus (1991-92), Harvey Pekar and Joyce Brabner's Our Cancer Year (1994), and Rick Geary's series of nineteenth-century true-crime stories. Like Pekar and Brabner, Ottaviani writes the text and plans the layout of his books; the artwork he assigns to several hands, which results in a visual variety that adds complexity and interest. This practice well suits the entwined stories of Hungarian emigre physicist Szilard, who was politically concerned well before the Manhattan Project, and American physicist Oppenheimer, who became concerned primarily afterward, when his colleagues, especially Edward Teller, pushed development of the H-bomb. Some chapters are the primary work of one artist but contain insertions by another; for example, Jeff Parker draws "Work," about the final preparations and the test explosion at the site called Trinity, in a loose-lined style much like that of the movie storyboards he does for a living, but Janine Johnston's painterly, photographic style illustrates with chilling effectiveness the explosion and Oppenheimer's famous quotation of the Bhagavad Gita, "I am become death, destroyer of worlds." More daringly, in the chapter on Oppenheimer's hearing before he was denied security clearance in 1954 and dismissed from the Atomic Energy Commission, Ottaviani runs edited texts of letters between Oppenheimer and the hearing board and of the hearing's transcript and conclusions in columns parallel to Steve Lieber's panels, in which emotional tone is altered by simply changing the backdrop from white to black. Ottaviani's notes on his sources and his deviations from them and an annotated list of references round off this immensely impressive "comic book." Ray Olson

A light introduction to the history of one of the heaviest subjects

This graphic novel, subtitled "J. Robert Oppenheimer, Leo Szilard, and the Political Science of the Atomic Bomb", is a good quick read. It's hard for my generation, raised with the fall of the Soviet Union, to appreciate how stupendous the atomic bomb really was. But this book does a great job of making the history of that period accessible. The book is not that short-around 200 pages-but, due to its graphic nature, is very easy to read.

Fallout is really divided into two major sections. The first is concerned with the idea and creation of the atomic bomb, starting from Szilard's ideas in the 1930s and ending with the Trinity test in 1945. The second is concerned with the inquiry into Oppenheimer's advisory position to the Atomic Energy Commission, which occured in the political climate of the 1950s. Both these are worth reading, but the second one, which has much more text-portions of letters are printed along with the graphics-is a chilling reminder of the craziness of that time.

With 6 different authors listed on the cover (and more in the back pages), the illustrations change often enough that you do have to pay attention to know who is speaking. Additional difficulties arise because there are so many characters. I think the book would be stronger if one author had been responsible for all of the graphic content because the characters would be easier to keep track of.

One very nice aspect of this book is the end notes. At the back of the book, extensive text outlines what parts are true and what parts are surmise. As the front of the book saysm "many of the quotes and incidents that you'll think most likely to be made up are the best documented facts." For example, Teller, one of the scientists, denies his similarity to Dr Strangelove, and another, Szilard, devises his own cancer treatment using radiation.

All in all, if you're in for a light introduction to the history of one of the heaviest subjects, Fallout is a good choice.

Fun and interesting look at the politics of the bomb.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. Initially I bought it intending to use for an 8th grade classroom, but upon reading found the content and writing style to be more academically mature - a greater level of basic understanding of the background issues is assumed, and the historical aspects of Oppenheimer's trial were nicely portrayed in my opinion with use of actual documents and such. So in a way I was pleasantly surprised to find that the novel was a bit over the head of my students and intended for a HS-level and above audience. The illustrations are nice and while there of course is plenty of info that was not included that I'm curious about, the authors had to pick and choose and I think they've done a fantastic job. A quick and fun read.

Jim Ottaviani and Fallout

Jim Ottaviani communicates both scientific and historical fact in a comic book way. I usually shun the reading of graphic novels, as most of them communicate nothing more than good story line with little literary skill involved in its text. However, I will read Ottaviani because, whereas he does communicate through a graphic novel, he communicates fact and he does it very well. Fallout is no exception to his writing talent. I would heavily recommend this book to anyone who enjoys graphic novels and I would recommend this book to one who do not enjoy graphic novels. This book is a superbly written with very good pictures. Without a doubt this book scores a five out of five and the author scores a five out of five as well. Along with Alan Moore, Jim Ottaviani is one of the best graphic novelists.

About the Author

Peter H. Rossi (1921-2006) was professor of sociology emeritus at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, director of research at the Social and Demographic Research Institute, and past president of the American Sociological Association. Known as one of the most eminent of American social scientists, Rossi authored over forty�books and two hundred scholarly articles. His works include Down and Out in America: The Origins of Homelessness; Just Punishments: Federal Guidelines and Public Opinion Compared; Natural Hazards and Public Choice;and Armed and Considered Dangerous.

James D. Wright is an author, educator, and the Provost’s Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Central Florida. He has written twenty-four books and more than 300 journal articles, book chapters, essays, reviews, and polemics.

Scholarly work

This is an older work (1986) and is not an easy read. It is well documented, full of facts and figures, and a worthwhile addition to my library. I am a firearms instructor and I have hundreds of books and studies dealing with self defense, criminality, training, use of force, and such. Don't expect a novel, expect an academic document.

Interviewing felony prisoners in ten state correctional systems in 1981, Wright and Rossi found extensive information suggesting that gun control laws have relatively little effect on violent criminals. For example, only 12% of criminals, and only 7% of the criminals specializing in handgun crime, had acquired their last crime handgun at a gun store. Of those, about a quarter had stolen the gun from a store; a large number of the rest, Wright and Rossi suggested, had probably procured the gun through a legal surrogate buyer, such as a girlfriend with a clean record. Fifty-six percent of the prisoners said that a criminal would not attack a potential victim who was known to be armed. Seventy-four percent agreed with the statement that "One reason burglars avoid houses where people are at home is that they fear being shot during the crime." Thirty-nine percent of the felons had personally decided not to commit a crime because they thought the victim might have a gun, and eight percent said the experience had occurred "many times." Criminals in states with higher civilian gun ownership rates worried the most about armed victims. Despite the popular myth that criminals preferred small, inexpensive handguns (so-called "Saturday Night Specials" or "junk guns"), the felony prisoners preferred larger, more powerful handguns-equal to the guns which they expected the police would have. Although the criminals rarely bought guns in gun stores, the overwhelming majority stated that obtaining a gun after their release from prison would be a simple project, which might take a few hours to a few weeks. Armed and Dangerous has lost none of its importance. In the years since it was published, no-one has done any research on criminal gun use and acquisition that is even half as significant or detailed. Armed and Dangerous is also a great book to give a library. The new paperback includes an introduction by Jim Wright that discusses the reaction to Armed and Dangerous in the years since its first publication.

Prologue Ed Baker s voice that evening plagued Francel even through the loud thunder and rainstorm, while she anticipated Garrett s arrival within the hour. Ed s voice taunted Francel without fail. No, Miss Cooper, this is a vital breakthrough that has come to a close. His voice was loud and clear as if he was right there in the same bubbled-filled tub. Francel exerted to wash that day s troubles away but her nerves were on edge. Kitty lay at the foot of the Roman tub, loudly purring yet staring directly into Francel s eyes. They both were in a relaxed state at the moment, listening to soft jazz that played throughout the house. Francel could still hear Kitty s soft purrs over the jazz and an occasional clap of thunder seemed to increase as the night eroded minute by minute. Unannounced, a heavy clap of thunder and flash of lightning roared throughout the house. Frightened, Kitty scattered from her relaxed position into the long hallway leading to the living area. Francel laughed out loud at Kitty s fright, and reasoned perhaps the cat had run into her plastic kennel in the kitchen to hide from the thunder and lightning storm. Moments later, Francel exited the tub, grabbed a white cotton towel and proceeded to dry her water-drenched soft skin. Not long after the drying of her skin, she entered the hallway naked on her way to her bedroom. Once there, Francel proceeded to apply a small amount of perfume to her body in strategic places. Afterwards, she slipped on a satin eggshell white shoulder strapped gown that resembled a thin slip. The satin gown exposed all the right parts of her body and then some. She admired her image from the stand-up mirror. She also knew mirrors didn t tell lies, at least not the ones in her house, she often joked to herself. Before she could gather her stilettos from the closet, Kitty let out an excruciating squeal from the kitchen area. But there was no thunder or lightning present, only the sound of soft jazz playing throughout the house. Kitty! What s wrong girl? Francel exited her bedroom into the soft lithe hallway. Francel arrived in the kitchen area and stopped near the entry door, and called out, Garrett? Is that you playing games, because if it is I m going to ban you from dessert tonight? Francel joked and rested her fist to her small waist. She recalled at that moment giving Garrett a key to the house to watch over it and feed Kitty while she was in Negril. Garrett? She called out again. Suddenly the house phone rang. Francel entered the kitchen to answer the nearby phone and noticed that the French doors were slightly ajar, but there was no sign of Garrett. She slowly approached the phone. Garrett! Francel called out once more over the ringing phone before she could pick it up. Boom! Without warning, loud thunder clapped. Francel was startled by the loud clap of thunder. Suddenly, as she reached for the phone, her body was shaken by a manly grip that caught her off guard. The grip was violent, not gentle. A strong gloved hand and white cloth suddenly covered her mouth and nose. Francel immediately recognized the smell. Before she could register what had occurred, her knees began to buckle. Due to instinct, Francel quickly recovered and began to control her breathing to cease the chloroform agent knockout powers. --From the Author

About the Author
M.W. Moore began writing while incarcerated in 1997, serving a 15-year prison term for several bank robberies. His latest release, Deviant is a fictional storyline of characters whose lives closely mirrors those in typical families, circle of friends and co-workers. Moore s novel details the conflicts and consequences suffered by those who commit deviant sexual behaviors, theft and even murder. Moore attended universities in Texas and Mississippi, where he studied industrial technology and competed in the 200- and 400-meter runs. He continues to compete in the Masters division with Houston Elite Track Club. He's now a successful writer and Rig Solution Specialist in the oil and gas industry. The third of five children, Moore still resides in his native Houston with his family.

Deviant is truly a must read. Mr. Moore takes the reader on a journey through the lives of the high and powerful of African-American society of Houston, Texas. This thriller is no cowboy tail or Boyz in the Hood repeat. This is a story about money, power and the deviant behaviors that plague those that possess them or aspire to have them ... sassy sisters and brilliant brothers. The characters could be the people who are sitting in the pews, at the banquet table or in the office right next to you. After 5 to 6 pages in, you won't want to put it down. Nothing about this tale disappoints. This is a great gift for the avid reader.

The first couple of chapters have you yearning for more! The players in this story are powerful, attractive, desireable & calculating. Going on this journey was riviting! M.W. Moore hit it out the park with "Deviant"! Character description & development is outstanding. I could hear the tones in their voices, scent of their colonges & perfumes, the strength in their personalities and sense the motives of their thoughts. Who are these players, could be your neighbor, co-worker or even a relative? I received the book on Friday & cancelled my weekend plans once I started reading this intriguing tale.

at first it start out slow but good this was my first time reading a book like this. 5 friends in this read was powerful so billion airs love it i don't read books about powerful and rich black fork like this. wow great read 432 pg but i am done. look to read more from "MR. On reading the sample on the Kindle, this textbook appeared to present a comprehensive basic review of seawater in a cogent and very readable manner. However, its tables and diagrams as displayed on the Kindle are so reduced in size as to be illegible. The lack of color transmission, and the failure of the font size function to effect these figure elements, makes the value of downloading this textbook questionable.

Awesome book

For both chemical and physical oceanography, this book is great. It isn't overwhelmingly long and it explains concepts very clearly and concisely. The diagrams and figures are really good and the chapter questions and answers are super helpful! I highly recommend this book for anyone taking an oceanography class, or for anyone looking for a reference book to have.
