THis book is the most authoratative work on the mystery of the Mary Celeste. Originally published in the early 1940s it appears to provide the most truthful information to this date. No one will ever find the truth to this mystery and the dissapearance of the crew.
My interest in the mystery is due to being a decendant of two and possibly three members of the crew of this ship.

Great reading about happiness

This collection of articles from HBR about the subject of happiness is full of useful insights that many organizations can use to improve the overall morale of people in the workplace.

The articles I would say is well balanced as there are presentations that advocate the subject while the last two articles gave us caution as to what seemed overemphasis towards the subject.

Nevertheless, I would go with the happiness camp. Too many people around the world are not engage in the workplace. It is already a common occurrence that people are more excited with Fridays than Mondays (the more so during Saturdays and Sundays). This campaign towards happiness sounds just about right.

An excellent read and a primer on the history of NASCAR

I first came across this author's NASCAR writings in the pages of TV Guide, where, for years he has been that magazine's NASCAR expert. Although I knew relatively little about the sport, his knowledgeable yet playful style was instantly engaging, making me feel like an insider who had been following along for years. When I came across his book, "Full Throttle", about the life of Curtis Turner, I took a chance and was rewarded with one of my favorite books of that year. And so I was looking forward to more...

"NASCAR Legends" describes a sweeping arc of NASCAR history, stopping at key points along the way to illuminate important people, races and tracks. Given the breadth of this undertaking, what the author manages to pull off is the rare feat of imparting a great deal of information and keeping it interesting every step of the way. The personalities, the inside stories, the triumphs, tragedies and drama are all handled with equal skill. The stories can be quite poignant, then suddenly turn on a dime to make you bray with laughter.

Edelstein obviously has a great love for his subject, but never gets lost in subjective indulgence. By stepping out of the way and giving stage to the stars...the legends...he makes it seem as though we are part of a private party, sitting down with some of the greatest drivers, crew, and owners in the world, and hearing the stories directly from those who have lived it. It's a fun ride, and one that includes several breathless descriptions of the most intense moments in some important races that will make you feel as though you are there.

This is a terrific read and one I highly recommend. Enjoy!

Colorful history of NASCAR with its outsized personalities.

I've been a fan of Robert Edelstein's writing for many years (I particularly LOVED his last book, a biography of NASCAR legend Curtis Turner, which was reviewed on THE FRONT PAGE of the NY Times Book Review). He has an uncanny ability to take someone who has never raced a car into race cars and into the heads of the racers. This book is a wonderful collection of important NASCAR stories. But Edelstein has written a book which is not a typical "greatest hits" type collection of stories. He has mined NASCAR's rich history, in a way that is only possible from a writer like Edelstein who has been covering NASCAR for nearly 20 years. This book did for me exactly what I want from a book - I learned and I was entertained.

Great read

I got this book for my stepfather who is crazy about Nascar. He loved it and read it in two days. He said that the autobiographies about the drivers in this book were a great read and he enjoyed learning about some of their personal experiences! It arrived very quickly and we are so happy with Amazon! I highly recommend this to all long term Nascar fans! The print is a little small, so if you have trouble reading small type you may want to request an oversize book if its available. Overall, very satisfied!

great wrap-up

This book was great! It wrapped up all the happenings in Hard Luck, Alaska. It also rapped up all the characters live's. This series left no loose ends. I liked this book because all the characters from the previous two books were brought back in and had a part in the story. This book showed the bond between all the people of Hard Luck. This was an easy read. You will want to keep reading to find out how everyone's stroy ends. This book continued the bond between the three brother's Christian, Swayer, and Charles. The idea of bringing women to Hard Luck worked out for all involved. This book finally finds Duke Porter, Midnight Son's best pilot falling in love. Debbie Macomber's books are always well written, if you have enjoyed any of her other books, this series is a must read. Unlike some other series, this one left no loose ends. This series was one of the best I have read. By the end of this book I wanted to live in Hard Luck and find a handsome man. While reading this book you feel like you know everyone personally. Abbie and Sawyer's son, Scott, ends the book for us all by telling how everybody's lives have settled into place. You will enjoy the great advice of this young boy as he helps, and watches the people of Hard Luck fall in love. It was a great way to end the book. This is a must read!

A feel good novel

The storyline in this series of books revolves around the efforts of one family trying to inject some new life into their small community in Hardluck, Alaska. The brothers run a small airline service (mail, people, deliveries), and employ a team of pilots. The community is heavily male oriented and in an attempt to get more females into the town, they run an ad for female staff offering them each a small area of land upon completion of a year long contract. This book comprises two novels (one pilot per story).
I had not read anything from this author prior to this work, but I found these two very enjoyable. The plot was lightweight, but the characters were sweet and innocent (compared to some of the darker, tortured heroes around these days). I went to bed with a nice glow after the requisite happy ending and look forward to receiving the others in the series soon.

I really liked both of the stories in this book. I liked that MacComber developed the father/daughter relationship between Bethany and Ben as much as the romance between her and Mitch. I really got to know and like all of these characters. The only criticisms I had was that I wish that there was dialogue written for Susan and Chrissie as they did their matchmaking and between Bethany, her mother, and Peter Ross.
I enjoyed the Matt/Karen dialogue as well. You can feel both of their pain because they divorced even though they still loved each other. You root for them throughout the whole book. I especially laughed at Scott's "advice." It was great comic relief for a serious subject.
